Physician Verification Service (PVS)
If you have a Web site with access limited to physicians, you can now use the authoritative American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Masterfile to perform real-time Web physician verification by using MMS’s Physician Verification Service (PVS).
Why Use AMA Data?
Web sites that must strictly limit access to physicians for regulatory or other reasons can’t afford to use anything less than the best physician data for verification/authentication. That’s why it’s so important to use AMA Masterfile data. It’s widely recognized as the authoritative source. Over 5,000 hospitals and managed care organizations rely on the AMA Masterfile to credential physicians. It is recognized by the federal government and other regulatory bodies as the authoritative source for all US physicians, both members of the AMA and nonmembers. It’s the most accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date US physician database.
Using this data, which includes only physicians, prevents access by nonphysicians. Because the AMA Masterfile is more up-to-date than any other physician database, it has the most current information on physicians (such as married names) to make the verification process efficient and effective, minimizing user frustration and your customer service expense. The AMA Masterfile also has robust data you can use for verifying physician information, including medical school of graduation, year of birth and state of practice.
How MMS’s Physician Verification Service (PVS) Works
Utilizing the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician Masterfile, MMS has developed a Web Services form that allows the customer to submit data variables such as:
- First and last name
- Year of graduation from medical school
- Year of birth and state of practice
These variables would typically be entered online by physicians seeking to access a Web site. Other variables may be used upon request - contact your MMS Business Development Manager for consultation.
In real time, MMS matches these variables and submits back via the Web Services a Y/N flag along with an MMS ID as variables.
In addition, the customer may elect to participate in our Med-E-MailSM program, which passes to MMS the e-mail address for each record. If the customer so elects, these emails can generate revenue that can help offset the price of the service.
