American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Physicians

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Masterfile is the official, comprehensive list of osteopathic physicians (DOs) in the United States. Verified on a monthly basis, the AOA Masterfile includes both osteopathic physicians and osteopathic medical students and is sourced from membership records, AOA professional journals, membership, and marketing communications. The data can be used in both email and direct mail campaigns, and includes key target selections, including specialty, graduation date, and type of practice. As the certifying organization for DOs, the AOA offers board certification in 18 specialties and 77 subspecialties.

With over 137,000 DOs and osteopathic medical students in the U.S., osteopathic medicine is one of the fastest-growing health care professions in the country. In fact, DOs are projected to represent more than 20% of practicing physicians by 2030.

What is a DO?

Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine with a large percentage practicing in the primary care specialties of family medicine, general internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Philosophy is the primary difference between DOs and MDs. DOs emphasize a whole-person approach to treatment and care, and are trained to listen and partner with their patients to help them get healthy and stay well. Osteopathic physicians focus on prevention, tuning into how a patient’s lifestyle and environment can impact their wellbeing. They strive to help their patients be truly healthy in mind, body, and spirit — not just free of symptoms.

DOs receive special training in the musculoskeletal system, the body’s interconnected system of nerves, muscles, and bones. By combining this knowledge with the latest advances in medical technology, they offer patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.
